DEATH OF MRS. JAMES W. COOK.
Mrs. James W. Cook died at the family home on the eastern border of this city on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 9, of neuralgia of the heart, having been in failing health for about a year. The maiden name of the deceased was Sarah E. Barnes, and she was born in Oneida county, New York, April 2, 1836. She moved as a child to Ohio and was married to Mr. Cook November 26, 1857, at Zanesville. They came to Story County, Iowa, in the spring of 1859 and here they ever since resided. They settled upon what is now the Riddlesbarger farm east of East Indian in Nevada township, and lived there until about nine years ago, then they removed to their place close to town, where she died as stated at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 7 days. She was a very worthy and capable woman and reared successfully a large family. During her husband's absence in the war she took charge and managed the farm. She was a member of the Protestant Methodist church and was always interested in good works. She leaves her husband, five sons and two daughters living, one son and one daughter having died, and she will be most sincerely mourned by all her family and acquaintances. The funeral will be conducted form the Methodist church Thursday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. C. L. Nye.
