Farmer Killed When Struck By Bolt of Lightning
Gale Fry, 49, farmer of southwest of Shipley was struck by a bolt of lightning and instantly killed, while at his chores during the rain and light electrical storm, about 7:00 Tuesday night. A horse nearby was also struck and killed.
Fry who had been milking had left the cow and had pail in his hand, when found where he had fallen, by a son who entered the barn, after finishing feeding the hogs.
The barn was not fired.
The Fry family lives upon and woks what was once known as the Lew Elliott farm, three miles south and a mile west of Shipley.
The body was taken to the Cooper mortuary at Maxwell where it was prepared for the funeral and burial. Services will be held a the church in Iowa Center Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery at Iowa Center.
The family consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Fry, four sons and on daughter. The children are Corliss, Dale, Basil and Robert and the daughter, Esteline.
There are also three brothers and four sisters. They are George Fry of Nevada, Jim Fry of Maxwell and Warren Fry of Tama and the sisters are Mrs. Myrtle Linton and Ethel Fry of Labanon, Ohio, Mrs. Ida Alderman of Nevada and Mrs. Wilda Brown of Iowa Center.
