Luther Paul Jorn
April 29, 1914, to May 26, 2001

Luther Paul Jorn, 87, of Nevada, died of cancer on Saturday, May 26, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

He was born April 29, 1914, in Salem, Neb., to Henry and Sadie (Fisher) Jorn. He married Ester E. Watkins on June 19, 1938, in Verdon, Neb. He was the manager of the Nevada Fareway Store until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada and enjoyed woodworking, traveling and being with family. He had been a resident of Nevada for past 51 years.

Survivors include two sons, James Jorn of Nevada and Michael Jorn in Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Linda Jorn of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren; a step-grandson; a niece, Betty Miller of Mathis, Texas; and nephews, Don and Paul Jorn of Verdon, Texas, and Jerry Jorn of Grand Junction, Colo.

His parents; his wife, Ester on Jan. 20, 2001; a sister, Florence Rosenberger; and three brothers, Henry, Ralph and Ray Jorn, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ with Pastor Brice Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation is being held today (May 31) after 3 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada. A memorial scholarship fund has been established for a deserving Nevada High School athlete.
