Esther Evelyn Jorn
June 5, 1914, to Jan. 20, 2001Esther Evelyn Jorn, 86, of Nevada, died of a stroke on Saturday, Jan. 20, at Story County Long Term Care in Nevada, where she had been a resident since October of 2000.
She was born June 5, 1914, in Verdon, Neb., to Homer and Martha (Hoffman) Watkins. She married Luther Jorn on June 19, 1938, in Verdon, Neb., and had been a resident of Nevada since 1950. She was a member of First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, Women's Club and PEO Chapter NE. She was a homemaker and a wonderful wife, mother, neighbor and friend. She enjoyed traveling worldwide, reading, sewing and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Luther of Nevada; two sons, James Luther Jorn of Nevada and Michael L. (and Caroline Seymour) Jorn of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Linda Ann Jorn (and Frederic Clayton) of Minneapolis, Minn.; two grandchildren; a step-grandson; and two sisters, Grace Watkins of Falls City, Neb., and Martha Abraham of Springfield, Ore.
Her parents; a sister, Priscilla Tubach; and a brother, Harold Watkins preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held today (Jan. 25) at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ in Nevada with Pastor Brice Hughes and Pastor Don Eskew officiating. Burial followed in the Nevada Monument Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Nevada Public Library. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled the arrangements.
