From Nevada Journal April 5, 1895 (front page)

Old Resident Passed Away.

Last Wednesday morning Treasurer Miller received a telegram conveying the sad news of the death of his brother, J. H. Miller, who was at one time in business in this town and also at Ames. The deceased was one among the oldest and most respected citizens of the county, and at the time of his death, which was caused by an attack of la grippe, was in the hardware business at Slater. Mr. and Mrs. Miller at once left for the home of their bereaved friends.

In the same issue of the paper:

Mrs. B. L.* Dickey was summoned to Slater last Sunday to the bedside of her father, Mr. J. H. Miller, who is seriously ill. Later all the near relatives were summoned and Tuesday night, Mr. Miller was not expected to survive until morning. He is a brother of the County Treasurer and has been a prominent and successful business man of Slater for a number of years and had many friends whose sympathy goes out to the family in this affliction.

* SUBMITTER'S NOTE: This should be B. S. Dickey. Bertram Sherman Dickey was married to Mary Belle Miller, daughter of James Harvey Miller and Sarah Harlow Chandler.
