--Mrs. Lew Abbott died Thursday at the home of her parents at Emmetsburg. Her death, though not unexpected, brings great sorrow to many friends.

The double funeral of Mrs. Gertie Abbott and her little son, Allen, took place at the M. E. church today. Little Allen had been sick for several days with brain trouble and quietly passed away Monday evening. After the death of her little boy, Mrs. Abbott, who has been very low with consumption for a year or more, and more especially since her return from Colorado, expressed the desire that the child should not be buried for a few days, so that she might be buried with him. Her request was granted, and Wednesday evening at six o'clock she breathed her last. Mrs. Gertie Abbott was born at Polo, Ill., 34 years ago, but moved to Palo Alto county with her parents in her early girlhood, where she has since resided with the exception of a short time in Chicago and Colorado. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Illingworth, and was married to Mr. Lou Abbott in 1889. Her death casts a heavy shadow over the entire community. She was a woman of loveable character and her friends were only limited by her acquaintances. For more than a year she has realized that she had not long to live, yet she bore her suffering and faced the gradually approaching destroyer with heroic fortitude and patience and gave promise of a faith in a life that never dies. It is an almost unbearable affliction to the sorrowing husband. The choice of his early love and only baby child are laid away, locked in each others arms, in the same coffin and in the same grave. It is such a sorrow as few are called upon to bear, and so great is the sympathy of this community for the bereaved husband that many tears mingle with his own. At the request of Mrs. Abbott before her death, Rev. Sanderson was called from Spirit Lake to preach the funeral sermon, and a most feeling and deserved tribute did he pay to the general worth of the deceased. A husband, mother, sister and three brothers survive her. Palo Alto Reporter, Emmetsburg, Iowa, Jan. 19.
