Fred A. Randau, Promenent Story Co. Farmer, Dies in Hospital Here Today

Fred A. Randau, 78, 115 South Hazel, Ames, died at 4:15 a.m. Monday morning at the Story County Hospital following a stroke on Saturday evening.

He first became ill Feb. 13, 1956 when he suffered a stroke while driving a tractor.

Randau was born Dec. 9, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Randau on a farm northeast of Ames. He spent his entire life in Story County, graduating from the Ames High School and received a degree in animal husbandry from ISU in 1910.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Ames, superintendant of the Bible School, served as an elder, chairman of the official board and committee during construction of the present church, a member of the Ames Rotary Club and was president in 1927-28. Randau was also township clerk and chairman of the board of directors of Washington Township Schools, and was a past president of the Story County Farm Bureau.

Survivors include his wife, the former Leila A. Setchell; two sons, Glenn A. of Donnelson and Merrill H. of Story City; one daughter, Mrs. G. Edwin Ott of Cleveland, Ohio; one sister, Mrs. Lena Lyon of Olympia, Wash., a half-brother Carl of Madison, Conn.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Ames with the Rev. Allan McDearmid officiating. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Adams Funeral Home until noon Wednesday.

A memorial fund has been established.
