CHARLES E. SMITH

Charles E. Smith, 72, earlier day resident of Nevada, died Thursday morning [October 5, 1933] at Kansas City, where his home has been for many years. Interment was at Nevada Sunday.

Mr. Smith leaves his wife, Mrs. Susan Gillespie-Smith, a daughter whose home is in New York and two granddaughters who lived with their grandparents in Kansas. He also leaves one brother, John Henry Smith, the youngest of the five sons of Captain and Mrs. I. L. Smith.

The father of the deceased, a Civil war veteran, was a prominent figure in Story county affairs for many years, living first at Ames, then in Nevada, and serving for many years as clerk of the district court. Later he engaged with the abstract business and to this they continued until the sons located in Kansas City in similar business.

There were five sons in the family, they being Marcus K. smith, Charles E. Smith, Allan Smith, William Smith and John Henry Smith.
