Earl A. McCord was born on the McCord Homestead north and west of Collins, July 4, 1890, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. McCord. He grew to manhood in the Collins community and was married to Emma Grove of Roland, a former Collins teacher December 31, 1912.
Mr. and Mrs. McCord continued to live at Collins until 1935 when they became Steward and Matron of the Story County Home and Hospital.
On Wednesday of last weeks, while he and Mrs. McCord were returning from Hampton, where they had gone after nursery stock, their car was struck head-on by a passing motorist and both injured. They were taken to the Ellsworth Municipal hospital in Iowa Falls where Mr. McCord, who had suffered a crushed chest and other injuries, passed away early Monday morning.
Mrs. McCord's injuries were less serious and she returned home from the hospital Monday and was in attendance at the services yesterday.
Mr. McCord is survived by his wife, Emma Grove McCord, two sosn, Harold of Denison and James of Ames and one daughter, Betty McCord Sorensen at home. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. A. S. McCord, 88, who has been spending the winter in Carroll and by one brother, Ralph McCord of Carroll. He also leaves four grandchildren Frances Louise McCord and Rebecca Ann McCord of Denison, Sandra Laverne Sorensen of Nevada and Michael John McCord of Ames.
