Funeral Rites Held Here for Late Jay Morrison*
Funeral rites for Howard Jay Johnson, 51, his farm home southwest of town Wednesday, were held Friday afternoon at the Lilly funeral home with Rev. T. R. Friley of Des Moines in charge.
Interment was in the Nevada cemetery under the ritualistic committal services of the Odd Fellow lodge, with Dean Morrison of Ames in charge.
Pallbearers were member of the Odd Fellows lodge of which he was a member.
Howard Jay Johnson, eldest son of Henry H. and Ruth Wire Johnson, was born a Cambridge, Oct. 28, 1899 and passed away on June 18, 1941, at his farm home south of Nevada, having spent his entire life in the vicinity of Cambridge and Nevada. His death followed several months of illness with a malignant disease through which he was tenderly cared for by his family.
He was married on Dec. 21, 1916 to Miss Effie Barker who survives him. Also surviving is their only daughter, Mrs. Dean Poush, Nevada, one grandson, Kenneth Dean Poush, one sister, Mrs. Althea Baumgardner of Lewisville, Minn., three brothers, Elbert and Roy of Cambridge and Joseph of Kellogg. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Deihl Richardson and one brother, George, who died in infancy.
Mr. Johnson was a member of the Odd Fellow and Rebekkah lodges in Nevada.
