Larry Eugene Johnson
August 15, 1931 - April 24, 2014

Larry was born August 15, 1931 to Myrl and Lola (Lundy) Johnson in Nevada, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland. He was a graduate of McCallsburg High School and went to Waldorf College. Larry volunteered to go into the Army in 1951, during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany doing border control, driving a tank.

Larry married Beverly Williams on September 18, 1955. Larry farmed in Warren Township most of his life and also worked at Mary Greeley Medical Center for 26 years. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg where he was a Sunday school teacher, served as a deacon and sang in the choir for over 50 years. Larry enjoyed singing all his life, singing at church, in high school, at Waldorf, the Army chorus, Roland Men’s Chorus and the Ames Barbershop Chorus. He was active in the Farm Bureau, was a 4-H Leader, was on the Story County Extension Council, a member and served as President of the Story County Cattlemen’s Association. He was a member of the Zearing Masonic Lodge and the McCallsburg American Legion for 60 years, serving as the Legion Chaplain.

Larry loved going to their cabin two times a year in Branson, Missouri and fish by early morning and go to the shows at night, like the Presley’s. He loved to garden and share his produce. He loved flowers (at one time he had over 500 gladiolus bulbs planted in the ole cattle lot). Most of all, Larry loved his family and friends, especially his great-granddaughters.

Larry Johnson, 82, of Story City, passed away April 24, 2014 at Israel Hospice House in Ames.
