JOHNSON FUNERAL THURSDAY AFTERNOON

WIFE AND MOTHER DIED MONDAY EVENING,
VICTIM OF PNEUMONIA

Mrs. Porter Johnson, 45, died at her home on Avenue I Monday evening [February 7, 1927], from an attack of pneumonia, which followed the flu.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at Central Presbyterian church, with Rev. J. George Walz in charge.

While the death of Mrs. Johnson is exceedingly sad and comes as a distinct shock to the community, yet is has been realized for several days that her condition was critical and there was little hope for her recovery.

The mother and her daughter, Miss Amy, had been taken down with an attack of the flu two weeks ago. For some time the condition of the daughter appeared to be the more serious, but the latter part of last week, mother took a turn for the worse, while the daughter's condition appeared to improve.

Mrs. Johnson was Lois Fantz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Fantz of this city and had lived in or near Nevada nearly all her life.

She leaves besides her husband, a daughter Amy, and son Lowell, her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. B. F. Fantz and four sisters. The sisters are Misses Isabel and Ruth who are at home, Mrs. Ray M. McHose of near this city and Mrs. Catherine Rogers of Davenport. One sister, Miss Bessie and brother Milo died some years ago.

The daughter Miss Amy is still confined to her bed and in a serious condition. As yet she has not been told of the passing of her mother to save her the shock and probable resultant setback.

The death is a most sad one and the people of the community will extend their omts sincere sympathy to the members of the family.
