Mrs. L. C. Rierson, 707 Eighth street, who had lived all but two of her 87 years in or near Nevada, died at 6 a.m. this morning at Mary Greeley hospital in Ames where she had been a patient for nearly seven weeks.
Funeral services wil be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Rierson home and at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Lutheran church with Rev. E. P. Windman officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
Born in 1862
Mrs. Rierson was born in Madison, Wis., March 22, 1862, a daughter of Andrew and Ann Jorgenson who came to Story county when she was but two years of age.
She was married to Lewis C. Rierson March 2, 1887. The Rierson home since 1922 has been in Nevada. Mr. Rierson passed away March 2, 1942. A daughter, Mrs. Otis Stevens (Nettie) and a little daughter at the age of one year and a half preceded her in death.
While Mrs. Rierson had been in failing health for a few years she was active and up and around the home when stricken seven weeks ago. All that fine medical care and skillful nursing could so was given her during her last illness.
Mrs. Rierson is survived by her son Ward Rierson of Nevada, two daughters Mrs. Frank Menzel (Louise) and Mrs. Mabel Menzel of Nevada and her son Lawrence Rierson of Arcadia, Calif. The granddaughter, Norma Stevens Cappello of Des Moines was raised in the grandparents home following the death of her mother.
Mrs. Rierson also leaves three sisters, Miss Ida Jorgenson of Nevada, Mrs. Kate Egeland of Marathon and Mrs. Annie Hansen of Roland and one brother, Oscar Jorgenson of Marathon.
Eight grandchildren survive her: Mrs. Duncan Irish of Nevada, Mrs. Paul Cappello of Des Moines, Loren, Wanda, Mary, Bonnie and Caroll Rierson of Nevada and Susanne Rierson of Arcadia, Calif. She leaves four great grandchildren, Bobby and Becky Irish and Cathy and Paula Cappello.
She also leaves a large number of other relatives and a host of friends who have loved her for her sterling qualities and her splendid Christian character.
