Lester Odell Myers
March 9, 1910-June 22, 1994Lester Odell Myers, 84, of Loma Linda, Calif., formerly of Nevada, died Wednesday of lung cancer at the Asistencia Villa in Redlands, Calif. Funeral graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery, With Pastor James W. King of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada officiating.
Lester Myers was born in Richland Township in Story County to John and Sarah (Bovender) Myers. He married Bernice Groomes on March 29, 1934, in Marshalltown. He was a farmer near Shipley until 1975, when he retired and moved to Nevada. A longtime resident of Story County, he had resided in Loma Linda, Calif., for 10 months. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nevada, where he was baptized on March 25, 1956. A talented stringed instrument musician, he played in several bands.
He is survived by his wife of Loma Linda, Calif.; a son, Jerry D. Myers of Grand Terrace, Calif.; six sisters, Marie Mesler and Laura Feldt, both of Des Moines, Gertie Myers of Knoxville, Etta Richardson of Portland, Ore., and Lou Ellen Stebbins and Lois Pfieffer, both of Maxwell.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada. A memorial fund has been established.
