Killed By A Corn Sheller

ZEARING, Feb. 10--A sad accident occurred to John Burkhart, a German farmer, living just south of town. He was working near the tumbling rod running from a gorse power to a corn sheller, when some part of the machinery broke and let one section of the rod loose which was doubled up and whipped around, striking Burkhart on the leg, breaking it just above the knee to two places. The knuckle of the rod struck him in the face, crushing the left molar bone and breaking the upper and lower jaws in several places. He lived from 9 o'clock until 1:30. He leaves a wife and six children, the oldest not being over 8 years old.
