From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Alpha Kathleen Stole Nelsen, 92, formerly of Ames, entered into eternal glory surrounded by her family on December 31, 2013 while a resident at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 516 Kellogg Ave, Ames on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 10:30 AM with burial to follow at Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Ames. The family will receive friends during a visitation at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., Ames, on Friday evening from 5 to 7 PM.

Alpha was born on October 6, 1921 in Roland; the daughter of Nels and Bessie Stole and graduated from Roland High School in 1941. She worked at the munitions factory in Ankeny during the war and married William "Bill" Nelsen on August 9, 1946 in Chicago. She worked in production at Hach Chemical until her retirement in 1993. Over the course of her life, Alpha enjoyed square dancing with the Ames Crosstrailers, bowling in the Ames Senior League, softball well into her 60's, golf and especially BINGO. She enjoyed meeting new people. Above all, Alpha loved her family and made attending her grandchildren's various events a priority.

Alpha is survived by her sons, Paul (Candy) Nelsen of Ames and David (Martha) Nelsen of Madison, WI; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Rose Stole of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, on November 13, 1991 and brothers, Bud, Orland, Don and Gene Stole.

As a show of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the family to be distributed to several charities that Alpha supported.
