David "Pup" Eugene White, 69, of Ames, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Israel Family Hospice House. A Celebration of Life Open House will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 2-4 PM at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th St., Ames. In memory of Pup and in keeping with his wishes, the family asks that you wear blue jeans and your favorite t-shirt or sweatshirt.
Pup was born July 11, 1944 in Ames; the son of Walter and Helen Holzer White. He graduated from Ames High School and Iowa State University with a degree in English. He was a thesis away from his Master's Degree in Foreign Language from the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from the US Postal Service in 2006 where he served as a letter carrier and postal clerk in Ames.
Pup was an avid reader who loved the Hawkeyes and enjoyed growing roses. He was generous to a fault and believed in doing anything for another person when he could. Pup had a reserved seat at Sportsman's Lounge where people enjoyed his quick wit and humor.
Pup is survived by his sisters, Mary Epperly and Elizabeth White, both of Des Moines and a nephew, David White of Madison, WI and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jack, Francis and Paul White.
As a show of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Israel Family Hospice House or the charity of donor's choice. On-line condolences may be expressed at www.StevensMemorialChapel.com.
