Hold Final Rites for Mrs. L. Schoonover

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec 22, at 2 o'clock in the Colo Methodist church for Mrs. Lillian N. Schoonover, who passed away on Sunday evening at her home in Colo, following a brief illness.

The services were in charge of the Rev. Alfred F. Schneck, who spoke words of comfort to those bereaved.

Mrs. Mark Wilson presided at the piano and accompanied the quartet, who were Mrs. J. D. Lounsberry, Mrs. Walter Bamford, Paul Henry and Mark Wilson. They sang "In the Sweet By and By", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Does Jesus Care?"

Casket bearers were Art Perry, Harry Maier, John Orr, Joe Mulcahy, Chester Dickinson and Merle Dickinson.

The many beautiful flowers which were a mute testimony of the esteem held in the hearts of relatives and friends for Mrs. Schoonover, were arranged and cared for by Mrs. Watson Donaldson, Mrs. Hattie Binder, Mrs. Roy Brouhard and Mrs. Merle Dickinson.

Interment was in the Nevada cemetery.

A total of $25 was given as memorial to Mrs. Schoonover by friends and relatives. This money has been turned over to Rev. Schneck for use in missionary work.

Obituary

The following obituary was read by Rev. Schneck, preceding the sermon:

Lillian Nettie Rinehart, daughter of Simon P. and Elizabeth Rinehart, was born June 2, 1868, near Colo, and passed away Dec. 19, at the age of 80 years, six months, and 17 days. All of her life was spent in or around Colo except one year at Maxwell.

On Feb. 18, 1890, she was united in marriage at Maxwell to Edward G. Schoonover who had lived within a few miles of her all of his life and attended the same school and church. To this union were born two children: Mable, living at home, and Eldon F. Schoonover of Colo.

The Schoonovers farmed until they moved to Colo after which Mr. Schoonover worked with Mr. Ransom in the hardware business. Mr. Schoonover passed away April 23, 1946.

Mrs. Schoonover was one of the early member of the Dalton United Brethren church and charter member of the Dalton Community aid. he later transferred her membership to the Colo Methodist church, where she has been active for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the W. O. club.

Survivors

Surviving are her daughter, Mable; a son, Eldon F., and his wife, Agnes; two sisters, Mrs. Arta G. Coughenour of Des Moines, and Mrs. Jessie Fleming of Colo, and many relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were he husband, parents and five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Merella J. Smith, Mrs. Emma J. Coughenour, Marion Ellsworth, Sherman D. Rinehart and Mary Carver.

Those attending the services from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Coughenour and Mrs. Mrs. L. H. McIntyre of Des Moines; MR. and Mrs. F. M. Boster and son, Gene, of Ames; Mr.s and Mrs. L. D. Coughenour of Maxwell, Mr.s and Mrs. Don M. Martin and Mrs. Dora McKibben of Nevada; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lynk and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lynch of Green Mountain; Mr. and Mrs. George Ruth and Herbert, Gene and Melvin Stover of Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Rodas of Mason City; Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Rod of Story City, and Mrs. Edith Osmun of Collins.
