SUDDEN DEATH OF NEVADA WOMAN

MRS. ETTA HEMSTOCK DIED AT HER HOME HERE LAST NIGHT.

The death of Mrs. Etta Hemstock at her home, Seventh and M avenue, at 9:00 Tuesday night frm diphtheria, came as a great shock to the community, very few of whom knew she was ill. A doctor was called within less than 24 hours of her death and the administering of anti-toxin was not effective.

Mrs. Hemstock was the widkow of Will Hemstock who died four years ago today and she leaves two son, Thomas and Donald, and one daughter, Luama the latter being with her when she died.

She was a siter of W. F. Stratton, well known auctioneer of this city, and a member of a pioneer family of the county, her aged father living at Ames.

Interment will be in the Nevada cemetery late this afternoon, the nature of the death preventing the holding of a public funeral.

Mrs. Hemstock had been suffering from rheumatism and other complications for some time but had been able to be up and around and no immediate danger was realized.

She was taken ill a few days ago but it was not until Monday night that a doctor was deemed necessary and when he arrived he at once advised the family of the nature of the disease and the danger. The home was placed under quarantine with the daughter in charge, and anti-toxin was administered, but the disease had apparently take too good a hold upon the already weakened sufferer.

Luama Etta Stratton was born December 21, 1876 at Ames, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Stratton. She was married March 9, 1902 to W. P. Hemstock of near Cambridge. To this union four children were born: Thomas, Ray, Donald and Luama. Ray died in infancy. Her husband died July 10, 1924, preceding her by just four years. She leaves to mourn her loss her aged father, S. C. Stratton of Ames, three brothers, W. F. of Nevada, Homer of Carroll and Marion of Portland, Oregon, and two sisters, Mrs. Jame Ball of Ames and Mrs. Isaac Penland of New Market, and an adopted sister, Mrs. Ralph Downey of Ames.

Mrs. Hemstock became a member of the Jefferson Methodist church when a young woman and since living in Nevada has attended the Lutheran church. Her death came as a shock to a host of friends for she had been ill only a a very short time with diphtheria. Age 61 years, 6 months and 19 days, she was a kind and loving mother and a good neighbor, and will be greatly missed.
