Edwin "Bud" Benton Finch
July 27, 1930 - August 29, 2013

Edwin "Bud" Finch, 83, of rural Ames, died Thursday, August 29, 2013 at the Israel Family Hospice House. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames with visitation on Monday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Kelley Community Cemetery in Kelley, Iowa.

Bud was born in Ames on July 27, 1930 to Albert and Viola South Finch. He graduated from Kelley High School in 1948 and began a long career of farming, raising cattle and a family. Bud served in the US Army just following WWII and served as an MP in Austria. Bud married Mary Bassett on August 7, 1953 in Napier, Iowa and this union was blessed with four children.

Bud served on the Iowa Simmental Board and was honored by the Story County Cattleman's Association in 2012. He owned a dairy operation until 1973 and then began raising Simmental Beef Cattle, where he traveled throughout North America purchasing breeding stock. Bud was especially proud of sharing his farming operation with his son and grandson.

Bud is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary; son, Bob, of Ames; daughters, Diane (John Konecne) Finch of Winterset, Laurel Lerner of Philadelphia, PA and Sharon (Gary) Presnall of Polk City; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; sisters, Lynette Norman of Medford, Oregon and Gloria Bower of Huntsville, Texas; a brother, David Finch of Ames and many nieces and nephews. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Finch.
