Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Helen Bernice Bie was born March 2, 1915 to Ben and Randie (Monson) Gaard in Story City, Iowa. Helen graduated high school in 1933 and married Ernest Beck in 1941. He passed away December of 1959. Helen lived in Tacoma, Washington from 1956 to 1960. She married William Bie on December 15, 1962 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. She had lived in Ames since 1960 and worked for 17 years as a switchboard operator/receptionist at the National Animal Disease Center. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames, the Elks Auxiliary and the Mary Greeley Auxiliary. Helen enjoyed playing bridge and was a mall-walker.

Helen passed away August 29, 2013 at 98 years of age. The body was cremated and burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Helen is survived by her son, Bill (Karen) Beck of Lakewood, California; her step-daughters, Ruth (Ralph) Bautista of Skamokawa, Washington and Wendy Bie of Grandview, Missouri; two grandchildren, Kevin Beck and Kyle (Susann) Beck; two step-grandchildren, Chris Bautista and Mark Bautista; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Lynn Beck, Mary Ann Beck, Noah William Beck and Mathew Nishikawa Beck and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; both husbands; two brothers, Arnold Gaard, Roy Gaard; and her sister, Gladys Wheelock.

Memorials may be designated to Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames.
