Services set for Mrs. Gaessler
Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Bihl Gaessler, 73, 1212 Park Way, who died unexpectedly at her home Thursday, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday from the United Congregational, with the Rev. Russell Pate, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the Iowa State University Cemetery.
Camp Fire girls planning to attend the services may wear their service uniforms, a spokesman said today.
The body will lie in state at Adams Funeral Home until noon Monday.
Born in Chicago, Mrs. Gaessler came to Ames to be a physical education instructor at Iowa State University in 1918. Active in Camp Fire Girls' leadership activities fro many years, she was the founder of Camp Canwita here.
She also was active in alumni activities of Alpha Gamma Delta social sorority, Faculty Womens' Club and Homewood Ladies Golf Assn. She was a member of the Congregational Church.
Survivors include her husband, William, a daughter, Ruth Marie Veltrop of N---ka, East Nigeria, a son, Capt. William B. Gaessler, Clovis A.F.B, N.M.; a sister, a brother and four grandchildren.
A memorial fund for Camp Canwita, has been established. Gifts may be left at the Union Story Trust and Savings Bank.
