October 16, 1920 - August 8, 2011
Resided in Des Moines, IA

James (Jim) Jones, 90, died peacefully at his home on August 8, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 600 6th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. His cremated remains will be buried at the Story City Municipal Cemetery in Story City at a later date.

Jim was born on October 16, 1920 in Ames, Iowa to George and Ora Jones. On April 1, 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Larson. He served three years overseas in the U.S. Army during WWII. Jim graduated from Radio and TV school in Kansas City, MO and worked for 35 years as a Radio Engineer at WHO Broadcasting, retiring as a control room supervisor. Jim enjoyed woodworking and golf and was a member and elder of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He will be missed by his wife of 67 years, Maxine; son, Greg (Delores) Jones of Mason City; daughter, Jean (William) Krieg of Elkhorn, WI; five grandsons, Matthew (Shelly) Jones, Phillip Jones, William L. (Annie) Krieg, Daniel (Sarah) Krieg, and Benjamin (Shawna) Krieg; five great grandchildren, Amanda (Jonathan) Gagot, Nicholas Jones, Billy Krieg, Lucy Krieg, and Brayden Krieg; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nevada; and three brothers, George, Robert, and Richard.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or Hospice of Central Iowa.
