MARY ORCUTT

Mary Barbara Gosswiller Orcutt, daughter of Charles and Magdalene Gosswiller, was born January 4, 1897 near Manilla, Iowa and passed away at the Story City Memorial Hospital on Feburary 14, 1969. she had been an invalid since January 1, 1966.

She was united in marriage to Vergil Orcutt on January 10, 1917 in St. Cloud, Minn. The young couple set up housekeeping on a farm in Cass County, Iowa. In 1921 the moved to Lakeview, Iowa and in 1933 to Clarion.

Then in 1939 they moved to Story City, where they have operated the Story City Cleaners. Their son, Duane, joined them in the business in 1948 when he returned from the military service.

Mrs. Orcutt was an acitve member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Even after her first stroke she attended services in her wheel chair.

They were privleged to celebrate their Golden Wedding in January, 1967, with an open house at Grace Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert, who was killed in World War I, and one sister, Julia.

Those who survive her are her husband, Vergil; son, Duane, of Story City; two daughters, Maurine (Mrs. Donald) Hudson of Marshall, Minnesota; Shirley (Mrs. Aupperle) of Pekin, Ill.; seven grandsons, two granddaughters, two brothers, Clarence Gosswiller of Brainard, Minnesota and Ben Gosswiller of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Caroline Peterson of Osakis, Minn. and Elsie Fischer of St. Cloud, Minn.; also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. February 18 from the Grace United Methodist Church, Story City with the Rev. Paul H. Beckman officiating. Burial was in the Story City cemetery.

Soderstrum-Larson Funeral home was in Charge.

Mrs. Paul Beckman, organist, accompanied Mrs. Luther Matson and Mrs. Homer Olson as the sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "How Great Thou Art."

Pallbearers were Robert Allsager, Myron Rod, Audley Moulin, Henry Thorsbakken, Harold Henryson and Richard Munson.

The following attended the funeral service of V. R. Orcutt from Grace United Methodist church in Story City, Tuesday, Feb. 18, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hudson, Marshall, Minn., Mrs. Shirley Aupperle, Pekin, Illinois, Michael adn Scott Hudson of Minneapolis, Gary Aupperle, Pekin, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Aupperle, Peoria, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Gosswiller, Minneapolis, Mrs. Elsie Fischer, St. Cloud, Minn., Leonard Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Meyer all of Sac City, Mrs. Elmer Miller of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Corliss Knight of Grand Junction, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wittkopp, Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Brady, Mrs. Charles Delpierre all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. David Clark of Winterset and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Alsager also of Des Moines.
