Vergil Roe Orcutt was born near Odebolt, Iowa on November 28, 1894 and passed away on November 21, 1969 at the home of a daughter at Marshall, Minnesota. He had been in failing health for several years.
He was united in marriage to Mary Barbara Gosswiller at Rice, Minnesota on January 10, 1917 and started farming in Sac County, Iowa. They later went into the dry cleaning business at Lake View, Iowa. In 1933 they purchased a business in Clarion, and in 1939 they moved to Story City, Iowa. Following World War II their son, Duane, entered the business with them.
He was a member of the Story City Grace United Methodist Church.
His wife, Mary, preceded him in death earlier this year. Also preceding him in death were a brother, Bently, and one step-sister, Mrs. Lenord Meyer.
Those who mourn his departure are one son, Virgil Duane Orcutt, of Story City; 2 daughters, Mrs. Don Hudson of Marshall, Minn. and Mrs. Shirley Aupperle of Pekin, Ill., 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also, many friends, neighbors and business associates of the Story City Community.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. November 24, 1969 from the Grace United Methodist Church, Story City, with the Rev. P. H. Beckman officiating. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery.
Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home was in charge.
Mrs. Dorrel Doolittle, organist, accompanied Mrs. Paul Nelson, soloist, as she sang "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "There is a Place of Quiet Rest."
Pallbearers were Richard Munsen, Don Munsen, Peter Larson, Ervin Ose, Robert Alsager, and Myron Rod.
