SAMSON P. ALNE
Funeral services for Samson P. Alne, 82, Story City, were conducted from Immanuel Lutheran Church, Monday afternoon, Nov. 20, Pastor C. A. Gisselquist was in charge of the service with Pastor Rudolph H. Anderson assisting and the message brought by the Rev. Olaf Holen. Louise Olson was organist, with a womens trio composed of Mrs. Laverne Severseike, Mrs. David Amensen and Mrs. Loren Tjernagel furnishing the music.
Burial was conducted at the Story City Municipal Cemetery by retired army chaplain Rudolph H. Anderson, assisted by the local Veterans Military Service. Casket bearers were Leonard Alne, Dean DeBoer, Steve Skramouski, Laverne Severseike and Emery Munson.
Samson P. Alne, farmer, carpenter and contractor in Hardin, Kossuth and Story Counties, passed away at Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on Friday, Nov. 17.
He was born in Viksbygd, Norway on April 22, 1895 to Peder and Inger Alne. He immigrated to Iowa in 1913, where he worked at farming and carpentry.
He was the first man in Winnebago County to enter the U.S. Army for World War I service. He served with the 88th Division of the AEF in France until the armistice.
On Feb. 11, 1920 he was united in marriage to Selma Severseike of Hardin County. Three children were born to this union.
He worked on Iowa farms until World War I shen he served as an carpenter, electrician and steam fitter at several military installations in the midwest and the Bremerton, Wash. shipyards.
He also worked as a general contractor in Wesley, Iowa until his retirement and moving to Ames, Iowa in 1960. His interest in fine craftmanship continued long after his retirement. He built homes in Ames and Story City with the help of his wife, but with little other assistance. He conducted his 82 years of life as he did cabinet work.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his home church in Norway.
He is survived by his wife, Selma of 58 years; three children: Leonard Alne of Falls Church, Va.; Irving of San Jose, Calif.; and Mrs. Rosalie Deboer of Marshalltown, Ia.; also six grandchildren; and one surviving brother, Knute Olen in Norway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and an infant sister.
