Knutson rites to be Thursday

Mrs. Minnie Knutson, 84, Story City, died about 5 p.m. Tuesday at Story City Memorial Hospital.

Born on a farm east of Story City, she had been a Story County resident all her life. She had been a resident of Bethany Manor since May, 1948.

Mrs. Knutson is survived by a sister, Mrs. Goodman Amlund*, Story City and a brother Lewis J. Mathre, also of Bethany Manor.

Her husband, Halvor Knutson, preceded her in death in 1942.*

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Bethany Manor Chapel with the Rev. Harold T. Masted, Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Rev. Pernie Pederson, chaplain of Bethany Manor officiating. Burial will be in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

The body will like in state at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home, Story City, until Thursday noon.

* SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The sister of Minnie (Mathre) Knutson was Julia (Mathre) Amlund, wife of Gudmund Amlund.

I believe the date of death for Halvor Knutson is incorrect and should be 1947 rather than 1942. Halvor is listed as a survivor of his brother, Knut Knutson, who died in May 1942. Also, the inscription on Halvor's stone is transcribed as 1947. This coincides with Minnie entering Bethany Manor in 1948, shortly after her husband's death.
