DR. CHAS. G. TILDEN DIES IN ROCHESTER
Was I.S.C. Physician for 14 Years
Dr. Charles G. Tilden, 61, son of Frederick C. Tilden, Ames Civil War veteran, and for 14 years Iowa State College (now Iowa State University) physician passed away Friday night, March 17, 1933, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Olmstead County, Minnesota, following two operations. He had been ill about three months, and was taken to the hospital from his home at Kalona, Washington County, Iowa two weeks ago.Clint Adams (son in law of his sister Arminta “Minta” Tilden Macy) left Ames Saturday morning for Rochester to accompany the body to Kalona, where funeral services will be held either Monday or Tuesday, depending upon the arrival of a sister, Mrs. Minta Tilden Macy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania County, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Tilden was born in Ames, Story County, Iowa June 6, 1871 and received his early education here, attending Iowa State College for the two years of 1895 and 1896. He spent one year at the University of Iowa at Iowa City, Johnson County, Iowa, studied also at Marion Simms College in St. Louis, St. Louis County, Missouri and finished at Drake University in Des Moines, Des Moines County, Iowa.
He practiced medicine at Riverside, Washington County, Iowa where he was married to Grace Ford April 20, 1904. He received his appointment as Iowa State College physician September 1, 1907 and remained here in that capacity until July 1, 1921 when he returned to private practice, moving to Kalona. The first unit of the present Iowa State College Hospital was erected during his last year here.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Iowa City, also of the Acacia Fraternity and the Ames Congregational Church. Dr. Tilden leaves his wife, his father, a daughter Norma at home; two sisters: Mrs. Minta Tilden Macy and Mrs. Agnes Tilden Poole of Ames; two brothers: Dr. W. C. Tilden of Stanwood, Cedar County, Iowa and Dr. Julius Tilden of Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa.
