Florence Breneman Tilden died Thursday
Florence Tilden, 77, 2523 Knapp Street, died about 8PM Thursday, September 21, 1961, at her home. Born in Ames, Story County, Iowa she was a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) in Cedar Falls, Black Hawk County, Iowa. She taught school here and in Charles City, Floyd County, Iowa. Her husband, the late Dr. Julius Tilden, practiced dentistry in Charles City from 1919 until 1941.

They returned to Ames and bought the Kandy Kettle here. She had continued to operate the confectionary after his death in 1946. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Ames Women’s Club and was a charter member of the Harmony Club.

The couple had no children. Nieces and nephews survive. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30PM from the Adams Funeral Home with the Reverend Russell Fate, Pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial is to be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
