Doris Jane House, formerly of Colo, died on Friday, October 12, 2012 at the grand age of 99. At her request her body has been cremated. Graveside memorial services, with military rites, will be held 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16 in the Colo Cemetery with Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiating.

Doris was born on February 15, 1913 in Colo, Iowa to Ross E. and Celia (Hickman) White. She graduated from Colo High School in 1932 and in 1943 she graduated from Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines. Doris served her country during W.W. II and on August 10, 1945 she married Gordon L. House, Jr. United States Navy in San Diego, CA. In December of 1945, Doris was honorably discharged as a Yeoman 3c in San Diego. After the war, Doris continued her education graduating from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Doris and Gordon made their home in California for many years where they were both educators until their retirement to Colo. Doris was a long time member of the Colo United Methodist Church. For the past several years, Doris has been a resident of the Heartwood House at the Northcrest Community in Ames.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband Gordon on January 29, 2006, two sisters Lorene and Dorothy and her devoted dog Sweetie. Doris will always be remembered for her kindness and sense of humor. She is survived by loving friends and extended family.

Memorials may be made in loving memory of Doris to the Story County Animal Shelter.
