Clarence Albert Haugsted, 100, formerly of Ames, died on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Hiawatha Care Center. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 19 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. Immediately following, a graveside service will be held in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with Pastor David R. Burling officiating.
Clarence was born on March 20, 1912 in Nevada to Lars and Laura (Nelson) Haugsted. He was a 1933 graduate of Nevada High School. On September 17, 1949, Clarence was united in marriage to E. Janice Palmer. She preceded him in death on December 18, 1976. Clarence married Rose Schau on September 23, 1978 at the Little Brown Church. He was employed at ISU and the Ames Lab until his retirement. Clarence enjoyed building and flying bi-planes. In his later years, he enjoyed gambling - spending his 100th birthday at the casino.
Clarence is survived by his wife Rose of Hiawatha; a daughter, Susan Godfrey of Osceola; a son, Steve (Joyce) Haugsted of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Tonya (Gary) Frost of Hallsville, MO, Bud Towns of Napa, CA, and Colleen (Bob) Briggs of Louisville, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Janice, a brother Bill on July 22, 2007, three sisters Velda Haugsted on June 25, 2006, Beulah McConnell, and Hazel Jacobson.
A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Clarence for the Hiawatha Care Center.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Clarence and his family.
