Gail Marie Nelson, 87, formerly of Maxwell, died on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at the Story County Senior Care in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 19 in the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada. Burial will be held in the Center Grove Cemetery in rural Cambridge.

Gail was born on December 9, 1924 in Roland to Arthur M. and Grace (Erickson) Michaelson. She was a graduate of Roland High School. On December 28, 1946, Gail married August Nelson at the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. She was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Gail was known as the "cookie woman" - making delicious cookies, lefsa, and kringla.

Gail is survived by her husband August Nelson of Maxwell; a son, Jerry (Paula) Nelson of Dumas, TX; two daughters Linda Johnson of Pullman, WA and Lou Ann (Michael) Longnecker of Cambridge; daughter-in-law, Connie Nelson, also of Cambridge; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a brother Arthur M. "Bud" Michaelson Jr. of Sun City, AZ.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents, a son James H. Nelson on December 4, 1998, a grandson Michael Nelson, and an infant sister.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Memorial Lutheran Church Chapel in Nevada.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Gail.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Gail and her family.
