6/27/47 - 8/22/12Dean Ross Hartwig, 65, of rural Colo, died Wednesday, August 22, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 25, at St. John Lutheran Church north of State Center with Pastor David Klinge officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery with full military honors by the Colo American Legion. Dean was born on June 27, 1947, at the Woods Hospital in State Center, Iowa. He was one of two children born to Dale E. and Kathleen G. “Gerry” (Wolken) Hartwig. He graduated from Colo High School’s Class of 1966.
After graduation, Dean joined the Navy where he served our country honorably from 1966 to 1970. On September 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Anna Milleson in Long Beach, California. To this union three children were born: Candi, Crisha, and Corky. After returning home from the Navy, he began farming with his grandparents and parents on the family’s Century Farm. Dean continued to farm his whole life.
Dean had many things he was passionate about. At the top of his list were Faith, Family, Farming and Friends. He enjoyed being outdoors. He liked to hunt, fish, snow ski, camp and go to Cyclone games with his family and friends. He was baptized, confirmed and a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Colo American Legion, board member of the Farmer’s Co-op and a Sherman Township Trustee.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Anna, three daughters: Candice (Matt) Dole of Winterset and their children Emma and Sean; Crisha (Kirk) Miller of Solon, Iowa, and children Trent, Trevor, Shae, Grant and Mya; and Cortney (John) Angell of Colo and children Bethanie, Brendon, Bryan, Brock, Jymmy, Kaleb, Molly and Jack, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.
In death, Dean rejoined his parents Dale and Gerry, sister Marla and his grandparents.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dean’s honor to St John Lutheran Church as well as Bliss Cancer Center.
