Leo Olson, age 87, formerly of Radcliffe, IA, died on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City, IA.
Leo Wang Olson was born on November 11, 1924 on a farm northwest of Radcliffe to Olai & Ordina Olson. Leo was one of seven children.
Leo began his education in a one-room schoolhouse that was consolidated into Radcliffe Community School where he graduated in 1942.On May 7, 1945 Leo was inducted into the US Army and served in the occupational forces in Japan during WW II; he was discharged December 31, 1946.
On October 3, 1945 he married Alice Hovda of Ellsworth, IA. Following his discharge from the Army, Leo & Alice resided in the Ellsworth/Radcliffe area. They had two children, Arlis & Nylene. In 1958, when Leo’s father passed away, Leo, Alice and family were able to rent the farm where Leo was originally born and continued to operate the farm until 1995 when the farm was sold. Leo & Alice then moved into Radcliffe where they lived until 2011 when various health issues necessitated their move to Bethany Manor and/or Cedar Place assisted living apartments.
Leo Olson, age 87, died on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City, IA.Leo is survived by Alice his wife of over 66 years; son Arlis & wife Margaret of Zimmerman, MN; daughter Nylene and husband David Counley of Omaha, NE; grandson Brett Counley & granddaughter Alissa Counley both of Lawrence, KS; sister Romaine and husband Leo Hanson of Spirit Lake, IA; sister DelRina and husband Ragene Spindler of Radcliffe, IA; along with other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Verna, LaVonne and Wanda and brother DeFlorin.

Leo’s body will be cremated following the funeral service and his cremated remains will be interred in the Radcliffe Cemetery at a later date.
