John Robert Fleig
BORN: January 22, 1947
DIED: August 21, 2012
LOCATION: Ames, IowaJohn Robert Fleig was born January 22, 1947 to Richard and Mary (Blount) Fleig in Ames, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War, was appointed a warrant officer in 1968, and piloted a Medevac helicopter. He worked in the office of systems planning for the Iowa DOT. John was a member of the American Legion Post 37, was an avid golfer, Iowa State Cyclone sports fan, and was proud of the fact that he, like his father, enjoyed being a lifeguard in his youth. John and his wife Connie traveled every year to Mexico, staying for a month. He was an animal lover, having many dogs and cats during his lifetime.
John passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House at 65 years of age.
John is survived by his wife Connie Fleig of Ames; his daughter Haley Kauffman of Ames; his two sisters, Jean (Tom) Carroll and Barb Fleig; two nieces, Katy (Chad) Greeley and Anne Carroll; his nephew Tom (Amie) Carroll; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was a devoted and loving father.
