Kirby Jay Leland
BORN: December 1, 1952
DIED: August 21, 2012
LOCATION: Maxwell, IowaKirby Leland was born December 1, 1952 to Arnold and Thelma (Wheeler) Leland in Nevada, Iowa. He was raised in Cambridge and graduated from Ballard High School. Kirby was a graduate from McPherson College. He and Carol White Leland were married on August 17, 1973. Kirby worked for the Iowa State Board of Special Education. He was dedicated to the Pine Lake Camp and was serving as Camp Board Chair. Kirby was a member of Ivester Church of the Brethren and his interests included stain glass making, farming, the New York Yankees and their church home.
Kirby died of natural causes at his home in Maxwell, Iowa on August 21, 2012 at 59 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Carol of Maxwell; his parents Arnold and Thelma of Cambridge; his son Rico; his daughter Kylee; his sisters Joette Leland of Ames and Julee (Troy) Petersen of Huxley; his brother Kurt (Lisa) Leland of Huxley; and many nieces and nephews.
Kirby was preceded in death by his grandparents and his niece Brooke Leland.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp Pine Lake.
