Joel H. Grubb, age 87, formerly of Radcliffe, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 10:30 am at Bethany Manor in Story City. Joel was buried at Radcliffe Cemetery in Radcliffe.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John's United Methodist Church, Salem Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, Iowa or to Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa.

Joel Harvey Grubb was born on a farm north of Radcliffe, Iowa, August 2, 1923, to Delbert and Thea (Hetland) Grubb and died at Bethany Manor, Story City, Iowa, May 5, 2011, at the age of 87 years.

He grew up on the farm and graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1941. He married Iowa Irene Duncan from Alden, Iowa, on December 28, 1945.

He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, while serving in the Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Radcliffe where he worked or the Hardin County Road department and the Thermo-gas Company. He later owned he Radcliffe Dairy, sold inurance, and finished his working career with tie Department of Transportation in Ames before retiring in 1986.

Iowa and Joel had two sons: Ronald, in April 1948, and Roger, in May 1951. Following Iowa's death in June 1974, Joel married Marie (Eike) Tystahl on December 31, 1976. They resided on her family farm southwest of Radcliffe until moving to Story city in 2001.

He is survived by sons Ronald (Christine) of Windermere, Florida, and Roger of Glenview, Illinois; stepson Ronald (Joan) Tystahl of Radcliffe, Iowa; granddaughters Sarah (Sam) Tegel of Winnetka, Illinois, and Rachel (Alex) Sisserson of Chicago, Illinois; grandson Brian Grubb of Orlando, Florida; and great-grandsons Luke and Nicholas Tegel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Iowa; Marie; and stepdaughter, Karen Cakerice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. John's United Methodist Church in Radcliffe, Salem Lutheran Church outside Radcliffe, or Bethany Manor.
