Thelma Gale
June 27, 1926 - July 31, 2011
Maxwell, IowaThelma Gale, 85, of Maxwell passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Thelma was born June 27, 1926, in Rural Collins to Charles and Hanna Elisabeth (Lizzie) (Duesbury) Davis. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1944 and then attended Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown where she earned her RN in 1947. On September 17, 1950, she married Verlin Gale at the Peoria United Methodist Church near Maxwell. She worked as the school nurse for the Collins-Maxwell School District for 25 years. Thelma lived on the farm outside of Maxwell until moving into town in 2000. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting baby afghans, writing letters, playing cards and reading. Above all, Thelma enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thelma was an active member of the Peoria United Methodist Church in Rural Maxwell.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Gwen (Mark) Nordholm of Maxwell and Jan Lee of Truro, IA; her grandchildren, Terri (Jason) Cox, Jamie, Jessica and John Paul Lee; her great grandchildren, Michael McClelland, Jaxson and Jaron Cox. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with burial to follow at Peoria Cemetery in rural Maxwell. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday evening also at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Thelma Gale Memorial Fund.
