Marvin McBride

June 16, 1921 - August 20, 2011
Nevada, Iowa

Marvin Wayne McBride, 90, of Nevada, died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Marvin was born June 16, 1921, near Shipley, Iowa, the son of Harold and Gladys (Brown) McBride. Marvin attended school in Shipley. Marvin served in the Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, he was united in marriage to Maxine Burton. Maxine died in 1964. In 1967, Marvin married Stella Hunter in Nevada. Stella died in 1999. Throughout his life, Marvin had worked as a hog and cattle buyer. He later was an independent trucker delivering grain and seed. Marvin had a love of tractors and rode in many WHO Tractor rides throughout Iowa. He was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Nevada, the American Legion William F. Ball Post #48 of Nevada, and the Tractor Club. He served as Marshall of the 2011 Memorial Day Parade.

Marvin is survived by a daughter: Carol (Mike) Gammon of Ames, IA; a son: Marty McBride of Des Moines, IA; a step-daughter: Dixie Hein of Nevada, IA; three step-sons: Richard (Sharon) Hunter of Nevada, IA, Jim (Joyce) Hunter of Nevada, IA, John (Nancy) Hunter of Fernald, IA; two grand children; sixteen step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many step great and great-great grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; a daughter: Shirley; and his sister: Myra Schoenenberger.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, August 25th at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Garden Cemetery near Nevada. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion William F. Ball Post #48.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials may be made to either the Israel Family Hospice House or the Oncology Floor at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
