Roberta Jean Mohler Viers, 77, of Maxwell, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at her home.

Roberta was born January 12, 1934 at Traer, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Jean (Stoakes) Mohler. She graduated from Maxwell High School in 1952 and graduated from Drake University. She was an elementary teacher for 41 years and retired in 1996. Roberta was united in marriage to Paul Viers on December 22, 1953 at Maxwell. Roberta was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist Church.

Roberta is survived by her husband, Paul of Maxwell, Ia; 3 sons all of Maxwell: Michael (Sandy), Greg (Janice), Steven "Bo", and 1 daughter, Susan, of Springville, IA, 8 grandchildren; Jack (Jill), Jill (Ryan), Jamie (Dejan), Shawna (Bruce), Casey. Joshua, Michael (Rachel), Jacob, Levi. 6 great grandchildren; and 1 brother: Richard Mohler of Maxwell, IA.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Jean (Stoakes) Mohler and a brother, Harold "West" Mohler.

Roberta was a 50 year member of OES (Eastern Star) Member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor sorority for scholastics at Drake University. Her main passions in life were children, family, marvels of nature; birds, flowers, mountains, prairies, and fields of crops with their many colors of green. Roberta enjoyed music; Gershwin, Cole Porter, Dixieland music, song lyrics, and good musicians. Roberta also appreciated the old religious anthems and hymns. Roberta was THE musical director at family gatherings. She was mother, teacher and nurse to her children. Her family always came first and she loved them very much.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Maxwell United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Peoria Cemetery near Maxwell.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Maxwell United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the The Roberta Viers Family who will donate all memorials to American Cancer Society, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Maxwell United Methodist Church.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
