Lois Dreeszen, 94, of Ames, died February 13 at Northcrest Healthcare Center. Memorial services will be held in March in the Green Room at Northcrest. Inurnment will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Lois Marie Dreeszen was born October 3, 1916 on the Hathaway farm near Pierson, Iowa to Whitmer W. and Eva Marie (Hathaway) Royer. She joined the Methodist Church in Kingsley, Iowa as a young girl. For seven years Lois attended country school. In 1933 at the age of 16, she graduated as valedictorian from Kingsley High School. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received an Intermediate Teaching degree.

For three years she enjoyed teaching fifth and sixth grades at Grand Meadow Consolidated School in Cherokee County. It was there that Lois met her future husband, Emmett Dreeszen of Cushing.
They were married on June 1, 1938, and she joined him in Early, IA where they established their first home together. They were married for 72 years. In 1942 they moved to Des Moines where Emmett accepted a position as a science teacher at Callanan Jr. High School. In 1944 when Emmett received a commission in the U.S. Navy, they moved to Oak Ridge, TN.

After five years in Tennessee they moved to Ames where Emmett accepted a position in the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State College. Lois joined the Faculty Women’s Club, United Methodist Women and Chapter O of TTT and held offices in all three organizations. For twenty years she worked part-time in student registration at Iowa State University.

In 1994 Lois and Emmett moved to Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames. Lois loved to play cards, attend Cyclone football and basketball games, and travel to foreign countries as a member of the Friendship Force. She was a wonderful neighbor who enjoyed making new friends. She took pride in meticulous housekeeping and family members can attest that she could spot a piece of lint on the carpet
twenty feet away.

Lois was a devoted mother to three sons, Lynn (Jane) of Scotts Valley, CA, Steve (Donna) of Revere, MA, and Bryce (Paula) of Interlochen, MI; and daughter, Dee, of Ames.

Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her death eleven grandchildren and step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shelley Jane; son, Lynn; sister, Iris Widmark; and two brothers, Dean Royer and Clair Royer.
Memorial contributions should be directed to the G.S. Nichols Scholarship Fund, Collegiate United Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa 50014.
