Ardis W. McMechan was born 1 May 1930 in Marshalltown Iowa the daughter of W. Eldon Walter and Myrtle Bein. She married James D. McMechan 8 September 1957 in Beaman Iowa. They were the parents of James W. McMechan and Sara E. Albaugh.
Mrs. McMechan graduated high school from Beaman High School and received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Iowa State University.She taught high school in Leon and college at Iowa State University, She was a County Extension Home Economist in Poweshiek County. She was an Assistant Extension Editor (Home Economics TV) for Iowa State. She produced and hosted a daily television interview show; worked with TV stations around the state and had a syndicated radio show used by a number of AM radio stations in Iowa.
She resigned her position of Assistant Professor after the birth of her first child but continued to do special projects, volunteer work, and part-time employment for many years.
She was past President of the Huguenot Society of Iowa and the Sun Dial chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of Collegiate Presbyterian Church Circle and Bible study group, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Story County Genealogical society, Mary Greeley Hospital Auxiliary, and Cohort of the Reiman Gardens. She also served on many boards and committees at Green Hills Retirement Community.
Mrs. McMechan is survived by her sister Donna Liska; children James W. McMechan of Ridgecrest CA; Sara E. Albaugh and her husband, David of West Des Moines IA; and granddaughter Anna L. Albaugh. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and daughter-in-law.
