Marian Jean Van Voorhis

BORN: October 22, 1927

DIED: December 15, 2011

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Marian Jean Van Voorhis passed away, December 15, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. Memorial services are 1 p.m. Monday, December 19 at Adams Funeral Home.

Jean was born October 22, 1927 in Des Moines to Irene and Russell Van Buskirk. She was raised by her maternal uncle, Oscar Herselius and his wife, Doreen. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1946 and attended Iowa State College for one year. She was united in marriage to Robert Encil Van Voorhis, of Ames, on October 22, 1949. Jean was active in the Ames Woman's Club for over 50 years.

She is survived by her children, Robert E. Jr. (Marcy) and Victoria Jean Van Voorhis; three grandchildren; Sara (James) Sherman, of Ames, Amanda (Shane) Roberts, of Waterloo, and Jeff Van Voorhis of Cedar Falls; and one great grandchild Madison Roberts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Margaret, Joanne, and Howard; and her beloved husband of 36 years, Robert.
