From Collins Gazette August 12, 1937

Harvey T. Granger, 62, a lifelong resident of the Collins community, passed away on Friday, Aug. 6, at University hospital in Iowa City, where he had been taken on July 30.

Mr. Granger had innumerable friends who mourn his death and truly sympathize with the members of the family in their time of bereavement. However, the suffering he had borne in his last illness reconciled all to accept their loss with the knowledge that the deceased had found the blessed rest which all welcome when their hours of pain and travail in this world are at an end.

Harvey Thomas Granger was born May 10, 1875, the youngest son of Thomas and Mary Ann Granger, pioneers of the Collins neighborhood, coming here from Illinois in an early day. His early life was spent on a farm northwest of Collins, later moving with his parents to town where he has since lived.

He was married December 23, 1900 to Nellie M. Wells of this community, and to this union three children were born: Mrs. Iola Shonk and Mrs. Francis Woodyard of Collins and Maurice Granger of Slater. He is survived by his children, two grandchildren, one brother, George Granger, of Colo, and a number of nieces and nephews.

The deceased had been an invalid for several years, but being of a cheerful disposition, bore his suffering patiently, ever trying to be of service to those around him. He had been in the hospital just a week when death came.

Relatives and friends from out of town attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. George Stigler and Maurice Granger of Slater; Mr. and Mrs. George Granger, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McIntosh, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Wilson, Mrs. Sherm Ulum, Mrs. Bessie Granger and children Donald, Forrest, Roy and Velma, all of Colo.

Funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. L. Shonk, Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill of Nevada in charge of the services. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. G. C. Fish, Mrs. O. H. Gearhart, J. M. Smith and J. G. Gingles, with Mrs. Hugh Fertig as accompanist, sang "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." The floral offerings were lovely and were arranged by the Misses Bessie Carver and Evelyn Wade.

Interment was in Collins Evergreen cemetery by the side of his wife, who passed away 14 years ago. Pallbearers were neighbors and long time friends: W. A. Kitchel, Fred Mead, Wm. Carver, L. W. VanDran, Dennis Halterman and Oran McQuiston.
