Funeral Services Held at Colo for George V. Granger

Colo, Mar. 11--Funeral services for George V. Granger were held Thursday afternoon, March 7, at two o'clock at the Colo Methodist church. The services were in charge of his pastor, Rev. Alfred Schneck.

The beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. Ica Rinehart, Mrs. Pauline Koch and Mrs. W. F. Bales.

The songs, "Sometime We'll Understand." "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Face to Face," were sung by a male quartet composed of Chas. Lehman, Chas. Wilson, Paul Henry and Mar Wilson. Mrs. N. H. Brinkman was pianist.

The casket bearers were Stanley Fincham, Tom Manley, Chas. Reed, Forrest Horner, Harry Maer, and Chas. Yeager, members of the I. O. O. F. Lodge.

Burial was in the Colo cemetery. The services were in charge of the I. O. O. F. Lodge.

George Varty Granger

George Varty Granger, son of Thomas and Mary Ann Granger was born at Sycamore, Illinois September 1, 1866. At the age of twelve he came with his parents to a farm southeast of Colo. On Feburary 27, 1890, he was united in marriage to Anna V. Thurston also of Colo. To this union were born five children: one son who died in infancy and four daughters Mrs. Gladys McIntosh, Mrs. Lorene Wilson, and Mrs. Mildred McIntosh of Colo, and Mrs. Georgeia Hunt of Rock Island, Illinois.

Mr. Granger was a farmer in the early part of his life but later became a carpenter and a mason. For twenty-one years he operated a general store in Colo. He then retired but continued to work at his former trade until last fall.

Following a severe illness that lasted two weeks he passed away at the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown on March 4, 1946 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Mr. Granger has always been active in civic affairs. He has been a member of the Official Board and Board of Trustees of the Methodist church for many years being active up to the last meetings a few weeks ago. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over 45 years and was also a member of the Colo Community Club. In the past he was on the school board and the town council.

Surviving Mr. Granger are his wife, his four daughters, 18 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Relatives from a distance in attendance at the services include Mr. and Mrs. Manning Hunt of Rock Island, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Shonk of Wayzat, Minn.
