Laurina Julia Hovde

BORN: February 2, 1920

DIED: March 17, 2012

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Laurina Julia Hovde was born on February 2, 1920 to George and Helena (Rambath) Peter in rural Boone County, Iowa. Laurina was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Boone. She married Gerald Hovde at St. Paul's' Lutheran Church on July 2, 1937. Laurina and Gerald were lifetime farmers in Boone and Story County and upon their retirement moved to Story City. Gerald and Laurina had four children: Thelma McNutt and her husband Gene of Longmont, Colorado, Gaylord Hovde of Story City, Helen Froehlich and her husband Loren of Goodyear, Arizona, and Harold Hovde and his wife Connie of Arlington, Texas.

Quilting and visits from family and friends were always important to Laurina. She was an active member of St. Petri's quilters and was involved in numerous other church activities. Laurina had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1969.

Laurina passed away March 17, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 90 years of age.

Laurina is survived by four children; five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and six brothers: Norman Peter, Hubert Peter, Leonard Peter, Melvin Peter, Richard Peter, and James Peter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald; her sister Eleonora Gibson; her brothers Emmet Peter and Curtis Peter; and a grandson, Joe Hovde.

Memorials may be made to Riverside Bible Camp, the Roland Cemetery Association, or a memorial of your choice.
