Nadine Avonne (Fardal) Mechaelsen of Story City, IA, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City. She was 83 years old.
Nadine, daughter of Gerhard and Olive (Hill) Fardal, was born on September 24, 1928. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Stanhope High School in 1946. She attended Webster City Junior College.
On November 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to Howard E. Mechaelsen at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Stanhope. Howard and Nadine resided on the Fardal family farm south of Stanhope until 1994 when they moved to Story City. Nadine worked at the Farmer's State Bank in Stanhope, and she worked for the Webster City School District for 25 years in the administration building.
Nadine volunteered as a secretary at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Jewell and at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. For many years she volunteered her time at Bethany Life Communities' Affordables store. Nadine was a current member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. At the time of her death she resided at Timberland Village in Story City.
Nadine is survived by one daughter, Olivia Bastian of Coon Rapids, MN; two sons, Rod (Brenda Kruse) Mechaelsen of Ames; and Doug (Mary Lund) Mechaelsen of Story City; and four grandchildren, Emily Bastian, Melissa Hall, Grant Mechaelsen and Chase Mechaelsen; many cousins and life-long friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 48 years, Howard; and son-in-law, R. Bruce Bastian.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial will be at Lake Center Cemetery, rural Stanhope. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
Memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City.
