Mrs. A. M. Merkel was born Shelland, Denmark, September 4th, 1837, living with her paretns until her twentith years, when she was joined in marriage to Carl C. Merkel of the same place, March 25th, 1857. In 1867 she, her husband and three children immigrated to this country where they soon after settled on a farm. Mrs. Merkel was the mother of ten children--five of which are left to mourn their beloved mother, the father having preceded her to the grave seven years ago.
