From Story County Watchman April 7, 1899

DIED--At his home in this city on Sunday morning last John T. Stone, aged 53 year, 1 month and 21 days.

While expected for some time the news came to all al a blow which all desired to avoid, more particularly those with whom he had intimate acquaintance. Mr. Stone was a native of Dansville, N. Y. but left there with his mother at an early day and made his home in the great west, first settling in Ilinois where he was living at the time the rebellion broke out and where he enlisted in 1864 and served in the 34th Ill. Infantry. After his leaving the service the family moved to Nevada where he engaged in the newspaper of Story county then known as The Story County Aegis, afterwards and today known as The Representative, in which office he remained the greater portion of the time under the various charges of the sheet. He saw the gradual development and enlargement of the interests of the county and its people and was always interested in the general welfare of all pertaining to it. His illness was of short duration and the end came not as unexpected. The last rites were under the direction of the Knights of Pythias to which order he belonged the sermon for the occasion being preached at his residence by Rev. Shrader after which the remains were laid to rest to await the last call. He leaves a wife, daughter and aged mother to mourn his loss, to whom all extend sympathy in this their hour of trial and sorrow.
