J. D. Gamble, one of the old and prominent citizens of this community, living just west of town died on Tuesday morning last. He had been out of health for near two years, and for the past 6 months had been confined to the house most of the time. A few weeks ago he seemed better and was able to go and visit his children and other friends, but he soon became worse, and went down rapidly. The trouble was heart disease and dropsy. Mr. G. was a good man in every respect. He had lived in this vicinity since 1856, and was widely known in the county. He commanded the universal respedt of all who knew him. The funeral wil be at 10 on Thursday morning in the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and will be conducted by Rev. R. A. Ferguson.
Mr. G. was born in Anderson Co., Tenn., May 7, 1830, came with his parents to Carroll Co., Ind. There he grew up, and there he was married to Elizabeth Mullen Oct. 28th 1852. They came to Story county in 1856 and soon after settled on the present homestead where they brought up a family of twelve children. These children are all highly respected. Mr. G. was for over 20 years a ruling Elder in the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and died in that office in the Maxwell congregation. He was a grand man, and live in all the relations of life. His loss is felt very much.
